Three Core Use Cases for Artificial Sweeteners

?
How should one evaluate sugar and its substitutes in the context of health?

Evaluation should consider three common scenarios: beverages (e.g., regular vs. diet soda), protein supplements (powders and bars), and sweet treats (candy, low-calorie desserts).

?
Why are protein products often sweetened?

Protein is a difficult macronutrient to work with and tastes horrible on its own, making sweeteners necessary for palatability and consumption in processed forms like powders and bars.

1. Prioritize Whole Food Protein

Strive to obtain all your daily protein intake, such as 150 grams, through actual food sources, as this is considered the best method to meet your protein needs.

2. Utilize Sweetened Protein Products

If you cannot meet your protein goals solely through whole foods and prefer not to use dry, salty protein options, incorporate sweetened protein powders or bars, because protein is inherently difficult to work with and tastes unpalatable without sweetening.

3. Stay Updated on Science

Recognize that scientific understanding, particularly regarding non-nutritive sweeteners, progresses rapidly, so actively seek out new literature and updated information on topics you may have previously considered settled.

I'm internally competitive. I'm not at all externally competitive, but chess is different. Chess is the only thing I do because you have to play against another person where I get insanely upset when I lose.

Amazing modeling there, Peter. Like, what a great job of a 52-year-old modeling for his two boys how to be a sore loser.

Protein is a brutal macronutrient to work with. The reason I will always maintain that if your goal is to get X number of grams of protein, do your best to get it in real food is that is hands down the best way to do it.

Peter Attia

Basically, the short and long answer is protein is impossible to work with and it tastes horrible.
